This September, tens of thousands of people will gather in New York for a “People’s Climate March” ahead of an important UN Climate Summit. The event is being organized by Bill McKibben of 350.org, who says,
With our future on the line and the whole world watching, we’ll take a stand to bend the course of history. We’ll take to the streets to demand the world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet; a world safe from the ravages of climate change; a world with good jobs, clean air and water, and healthy communities.
For more information about the march, visit http://peoplesclimate.org/.
Our friends at the Kansas Sierra Club are coordinating a bus from Wichita, through Kansas City and then on to New York. The price for round-trip transportation is $150 ($159.24 with fees). In order to buy tickets, go to http://kansasbus.eventbrite.com.
The deadline is August 1st – if not enough tickets have been sold by that date the bus will be canceled and your money refunded.
If you can’t go but would like to support someone else going you can make a donation at the Eventbrite site.
Here’s a tentative schedule at this time:
Leave Wichita 3:30 pm on Friday 19th.
Arrive KC 6:30 pm via I-35 – have dinner here and depart about 7:30 pm
Arrive Allentown, PA between 4-5pm Saturday, stay overnight at a campground or hotel (additional cost) before departing for NYC on Sunday morning.
Returning after the march Sunday evening, probably straight through to Kansas City.
If you have any questions the Bus Captain is Lori Lawrence, and her email is lawrencelorid<at>gmail.com.
