In 2012, we saw:
- Drought covering half the nation (and causing disaster declarations in 103 of Kansas’ 105 counties),
- Record melting of Arctic ice,
- Blistering summer temperatures all across the country, and
- An unprecedented “superstorm” on the east coast, leading to thousands of people put out of their homes and billions of dollars of economic damage.
All this has made one thing clear: despite all the denial, the posturing, and the delay –
The time for climate silence is over!
As a person of faith, you know how important it is to speak and act on your values. All the more so when real people and communities are suffering from the physical and economic effects of climate disruption.
And that’s exactly what Kansas IPL does: helping congregations lower their carbon footprints; teaching and preaching about the faith basis of environmental stewardship; and putting together a coalition of faith voices in response to the challenge of global climate change.
With your help, in 2012 we have:
- implemented a matching grant program to help 15 congregations save 15% or more of their energy usage through improved efficiency;
- led dozens of programs throughout the state, including our Annual event, screening the film, Dirty Business, and co-sponsoring the recent Kansas Environmental Forum; and
- run action alerts, met with legislators, testified in front of committees, and made alliances with groups with similar interests for future action.
And we are in a position to do even more next year!
But to do that, we need your help!
By making a donation to Kansas IPL you are
- supporting the only organization working on faith-based environmental stewardship and activism throughout the state of the Kansas, and one of the few state organizations sustaining dedicated advocacy on climate and energy issues in Kansas,
- joining a national movement encompassing 40 states, tens of thousands of faith communities and hundreds of thousands of people of faith, and
- strengthening our ability to help congregations save money and energy, and strengthening our voice for the difficult but so important struggles that lie ahead.
And if you make your tax-deductible donation by December 1, your gift will be matched 100% by our national parent organization, Interfaith Power and Light.
