On Tuesday, March 19th, the House Energy & Environment committee voted 10-9 to table HB 2241 which would have rolled back renewable energy targets.

Thank you for your letters, calls and emails to let your representative know how important wind energy is for Kansas.

WIND IS WORKING FOR KANSAS

Supporters of this successful renewable energy law included agriculture, economic development, faith and environmental organizations, Chambers, landowners and wind developers from all corners of the state.

Twenty one conferees provided written testimony to keep the RPS safe (compared to only 1 proponent). Testimony from all corners of the state described the economic and environmental benefits Kansas has received since the renewable energy law was put in place.

  • Wind energy has created more than 13,000 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Landowners receive more than $13 million annually for lease payments.
  • Communities receive more than $10 million annually in donation agreements for hosting wind farms.

It is possible for the bill to come off the table in committee with a majority committee vote.  However, time is running short and we are cautiously optimistic we’ve seen the last of it this year.
